چکیده

Abs t r ac t . This paper describes how a proven planning technique can be employed within a structured approach to knowledge based system development (KADS), via the definition of a mode! of expertise. This paper proposes a KADS model of expertise for hierarchical skeletal plan refinement. This model is based on a conceptual analysis by Kiihn and Schrnalhofer (1992) of skeletal planning as described in Friedland and Iwasaki (1985). The separation of domain and control knowledge is well defined in the KADS problem solving model and we explore the implications of this on the choice of domain representation formalism. We show how sound formalisms such as a temporal logic can be used for knowledge representation at the domain level.

Streamlining the planning approval process for a sustainable urban development: A case study for unwinding man-made complexities

The urban development process displays regressive tacit-dominant knowledge areas and their tacit level would impede their movements during multi-level knowledge transfers among stakeholders. The accuracy of a knowledge may be distorted when recipient stakeholders fail to understand a specific knowledge for its purpose. Earlier studies by the authors had highlighted complex yet dynamic environme...

Extending the Knowledge-Based Approach to Planning with Incomplete Information and Sensing

In (Petrick and Bacchus 2002), a “knowledge-level” approach to planning under incomplete knowledge and sensing was presented. In comparison with alternate approaches based on representing sets of possible worlds, this higher-level representation is richer, but the inferences it supports are weaker. Nevertheless, because of its richer representation, it is able to solve problems that cannot be s...

Knowledge-Level Planning for Robot Task Planning and Human-Robot Interaction

A robot operating in a real-world domain often needs to do so with incomplete information about the state of the world. A robot with the ability to sense the world can also gather information to generate plans with contingencies, allowing it to reason about the outcome of sensed data at plan time. Moreover, the type of information sensed can vary greatly between domains; for instance, domains i...

Learning knowledge-level domain dynamics

The ability to learn relational action models from noisy, incomplete observations is essential to support planning and decision-making in real-world environments. While some methods exist to learn models of STRIPS domains in this setting, these approaches do not support learning of actions at the knowledge level. In contrast, planning at the knowledge level has been explored and in some domains...
